New Music from Johnson and Nicastro
Dino and I have been talking about collaborating on some soundtrack-type music for a few months now. We finally have something to show for it. I think this is the first music we’ve written together since Dog and Pony Show, which was the last Formula Kid song ever written – I think.
Two weeks ago Dino sent me a drum loop that he’d been working on. I liked it a lot. It was very tribal sounding. After noticing that he had named it ‘The Hunt’ I figured that was what he was going for. I set a goal to do three totally different work-ups from this same loop and have them sent back to Dino in less than 24 hours. I actually did it, and not a single one of them sounded tribal in the least little bit. When I started working on it I quickly realized that I had no idea how to do tribal so I stopped trying.
I sent them back to Dino named ‘the hunt louisiana’ – ‘the hunt spain’ – ‘the hunt texas’. This was just so Dino could at least get an idea of what I was trying to accomplish stylistically.
This was a lot of fun. Dino and I are going to be doing more of this in the near future. This was sort of a trial run to see how it worked and I think it worked rather well. These recordings are pretty demo-y sounding but I think they’re very cool.
Dino has gotten the official “send us everything you have” letter from a music placement company after hearing some samples of his work. He’s flying out to California in April to meet with some more people from this industry. Pretty exciting stuff.
Very cool. I could imagine 3 very cool scenes that those songs would really work for.
Cool news here. If you’re taking ballots, I vote for Louisiana (I like them all, but prefer this one).
