Nate
Today I came across some videos that Nate posted of him and his brothers jamming in his basement. Definitely worth checking out.
For those of you who don’t know who Nate is he was the keyboard player in my last band.
That’s all I got.

Wow. So I’ve just now returned from the Danger Keys Experience and I won’t not say that I was blown away. Of course, I was then blown back, and then blown away again, and then back again and so on and so forth in that fashion until finally I was able, with a final strand of willpower, to hoist myself back up into your sanctuary of peaceful reflection and distressed typeface.
I’m being really silly, as you see, but in actual fact, I loved it. It’s very much my cup of tea right now. I’m being totally serious.
Have you ever heard The Flying Lizards version of “Money” or “Summertime Blues?” Well, they’re brilliant, I say (and that’s final). And this is very much that aesthetic. Let me see if I can find this for you…
And then there’s the obvious Residents thing going on there. You know those guys with eyeballs for heads? Yeah, they’re great too (my opinions are not to be questioned).
You have my permission to agree (with enthusiasm).

When I played “Money” Angel said “I love that song”. She remembered that the first time we heard it was in the movie Empire Records. That was back when Renee Zellwheigheirs still looked like a normal human. That movie holds a place in my heart right next to Xanadu.
I’d never heard The Residents. I can definitely see the appeal. It’s pretty compelling stuff. Kind of catchy in a Dr. Demento sort of way.
Jeff, I hadn’t heard about the Jellyfish thing. Thanks for the heads-up. I’m still stuck in 1993 because of that stinking band.
Chris, I also saw your comment on the Koffterweid stuff. Thanks. I’m always amazed at how many people have heard that tape. It brings back fond memories for me too. You remembered right. That red car was Angel’s old Neon.
If you spell-check Koffterweid the first suggestion is Counterweight.

Oh, yes. Empire Records. I’m not totally sure what the literal translation of “Tour De Force” is, but I’m pretty sure this movie is one. Next Xanadu, huh? I’ve never actually seen that all the way through – or even for more than 3 minutes at a time. i know I’ve mentioned that that song, “got to believe we are are magic” is pretty great. so is “hpelessly devoted to you”, but that’s got nothing to do with anything. I would’ve put Empire Records next to… (trying to come up with youth-oriented, ensemble movie). Have you seen, “Waiting”? That could be one. Either that or, “Can’t Hardly Wait” starring Jennifer Love Hewitt. Yeah, I actually just now typed that. And I type really slowly, so I’m really hoping the sacrifice was appreciated or at least noticed.
Yeah, “money” is a great song. most people know the Beatles version best, I think. But It was first recordewd by Barrett Strong on the Tamla lable (I am so desperately trying to sound smart here, but you know I just looked that up. I mean, look, I can’t even spell the word, ‘recorded’ correctly.)
Neon! Yes, right. Thanks. i loved that car – and then i broke off the passenger-side rear-view mirror on the day her dad went to trade it in.
Then i tried to glue it back on with Liquid Nails, but it hadn’t had time to dry when he came to take the car into the dealer. It was all very “Happy Days”.
You know – that one where Ralph wrecks Fonzie’s bike and they have to tie him to a chair so they can break the news to him without incurring the full brunt of his wrath.
People who actually say, “jump the shark” are stupid.
However, people who use the word, “brunt” completly rule!
Wow. I should do something with my life.
The music in Xanadu was so amazing (ELO) coupled with a rollerskating theme, forget about it. Cinematic bliss.
I have a Liquid Nails story of my own actually. It was sort of a Yosemite Sam moment where I looked down the barrel of the caulking gun to see what was clogging it up — while pulling the trigger of course. When she broke free I had Liquid Nails all over my glasses and in my hair and on the walls and on the ceiling fan — that was turned on high and doing its best to help distribute the mess evenly throughout the kitchen. Angel was trying to help me get the mess out of my hair but she was having a hard time pointing and laughing and helping all at the same time.
You’re so lucky.
Sigh…
I wish I had someone to point & laugh at me…
I’ll point and laugh at you, if it’ll make you feel better. Actually, I think I have before… I believe it was while you were lying in my front yard next to Steve’s soaking wet, snow-filled amp.
