Happy Halloween

Riley JohnsonMy surgeon’s cuter than your surgeon.

Riley has been trying to get sick for the past couple of days. We knew this morning that he had succeeded when Angel told him that if he stayed home from school he wouldn’t get to go Trick or Treating and he said that would be fine.

Well Angel and I weren’t about the let a sick kid stand in the way of us having mountains of sugar freely heaped upon us by the generous old ladies on our block. So we doped him up, decked him out and sent him off to pound the pavement and make mommy and daddy proud.

We only made him work for about half an hour. Besides, he had already scored enough loot to keep us fried for the next few months. Then after we got home and started sorting through the goods Angel’s friend Lisa came by and dropped off another 20 pounds of candy that she had collected for Riley. She told people she was collecting for a sick kid. Judging by the volume of candy they gave him they must have thought he had leukemia.

‘Sin No More’ – Available for Download

October 29th, 2007 |

‘Sin No More’ is the first song from my new record ‘I Have Walked On The Moon’. I hope I’m not making a mistake by releasing this song first. This song is very different from anything else I’ve ever done and very different from anything else on the record. And it’s super cool.

Sin No More – Click here to download the CD quality wav file – 35.2 MB

Sin No More – Click here to download the 192 Kbps mp3 file – 4.8 MB (Coward!)

For those of you who have never visited the Internet before you may need to right click and “Save target as…” or “Save link as…” to save the file to your computer instead of just playing it in your browser.

Steve Vai Shreds

Jeff H (reader and frequent commenter) sent me a link to a hilarious You Tube video of Eddie Van Halen playing a guitar solo. This video was done by the same guy and is basically the same idea.

I have to say that this is the funniest thing I have seen in a long, long time. I’ve been laughing about this for the last few hours. This video made me soil myself and have an asthma attack at the same time.

‘Sin No More’ Coming Soon

October 25th, 2007 |

Taking a break from blogging always seems to remind me of how much I love attention.

I’ve been debating whether or not to start posting the songs I have finished for my new record. I get a lot of enjoyment out of being able to finish a song and immediately let people hear it. That gives me the sense of progress that is so vital to the huge undertaking of making an album (essentially) by yourself at a pace of about an hour a day.

On the other hand I get very little enjoyment out of releasing an album at the end of three years of work by saying “Here’s the last tune. Now take all those others that you’re already sick of and put them with this one. Yay.”

I’ve given it a lot of thought and it seems like the best thing to do is to just put the songs on the site as I finish them. And I’m starting to finish them.

The first song is called “Sin No More” and I’m going to post it in the next couple of days. Dino said he thinks this song is his favorite of all my songs. It’s very different from anything I’ve done before so I’m excited for everyone to hear it. I just need to listen to it another zillion times over the weekend to make sure that the maraca in the right speaker doesn’t need to be turned up a decibel or any other minute change that will have absolutely no impact on the listener whatsoever.

Here’s a recent picture of Riley just in case you’ve forgotten how cute his daddy is.

That’s all for now. The baseball game is about to start and I must enter a time of fasting and prayer on behalf of the Rockies.

To Mother – The Dance Remix

October 7th, 2007 |

Reader and frequent commenter Bleemus (his name is Mike in real life) is getting married in one month. A while back he had asked me to play ‘To Mother from Her Son’ at the reception so he and his mom could dance to it. There was one big problem however, that song is super fast and completely un-danceable.

I worked for a while to try and find some way of pulling off a live version but there were just way too many obstacles. So it was decided that I would just record a slower version.

When I first started the recording process I thought that the slow tempo sounded totally ridiculous. But after I spent some time with it, it started to grow on me. Now I really kind of like it.

Of course there way no way for me to pull the band back together to re-record one song so I just did it with a drum machine and some shakers. I think it turned out pretty nice.

The New Theme

October 6th, 2007 |

“Third verse same as the first.” Only better I think. I’m working on the new theme here to make it look kind of like the old theme and it’s getting there. This theme functions a lot better as far as the admin stuff goes so that’s the main reason for the change. There’s still more work that needs to be done but I think I’ll just go with it for now.

I’ve been very busy with recording the last few days. I have something that I’m pretty sure a few of you will be interested to hear. I’ll post that sometime this weekend. It’s late. Off to bed.
